The 31-year-old Iyer is expected to be rewarded for his impressive captaincy record in the IPL, having led three different franchises – Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings – to the final, winning one title.
Iyer is also likely to come in at number 4 position.
Surya Kumar, despite leading India to the T20 World Cup title earlier this year, is set to lose both the captaincy and his place in the squad after a prolonged slump in form and wrist injury concerns.
