Why Jeremy Clarkson had to send his pigs away
The emotional scenes saw Clarkson’s herd of pigs realize that it didn’t make financial sense. A butcher warned him that the animals did not yield enough meat to justify the costs, leaving the majority with little choice to leave.“I love the pigs, absolutely … I’ve been delighted every day I’ve been there,” Clarkson told the Irish land agent. “They make my heart sing, I’m very happy. But we’re running a business here, and they don’t make financial sense at all.”He has accepted that the decision is inevitable. “I knew there was only one option,” he admitted. The situation was made even more complicated by the fact that the final team included one of the original sows that he and girlfriend Lisa Hogan had bought three years earlier. “It was even more difficult to say goodbye to the current team,” he said.When Kaleb tried to reassure Cooper that it was “for the better,” Clarkson’s response was simple and blunt. “It’s still very sad,” she replied.
An emotional goodbye
When Clarkson and Lisa said goodbye to the pigs, the moment became too much for her. With her back to the camera, she put her face in her hands and rubbed her eyes. Lisa came over to comfort her, giving her a hug and stroking her head, holding her tight and crying.Not all pigs were sent to the slaughterhouse, however. Two of them, named Clumsy and Swizz, were transferred to a training farm. “I couldn’t have handled it if they had gone out to eat,” Clarkson said of the couple.The first four episodes of the fifth series of ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ are now available to stream.
