Raj Kundra has spoken of growing concerns about explicit online content, calling for stricter regulations and a possible ban on pornographic websites in India.His statement comes days later Harbhajan Singh raised similar concerns in Parliament about the impact of such content on young minds.
“This is not about me, it’s about society”
Addressing the ongoing narratives around him, Kundra said he wanted to address what he believed to be a serious national problem.“I would like to speak about the constant narratives around me, and more importantly, speak about an issue that urgently needs national attention. For the last four years, I have been dealing with trolls, hate and relentless media judgement. A picture has been painted for me that is far from reality,” he told ANI.He added, “Today’s statement is not about me, it is about the good of our society.”
“The Internet is flooded with unregulated degrading content”
Highlighting the easy accessibility of explicit content, Kundra said it is a serious social concern.“The Internet today is flooded with free, unregulated content that is degrading, addictive and easily accessible, especially to young and impressionable minds. This is not just a moral concern; it’s a societal one,” he said.Calling for stronger action, “India should consider stricter regulations, including a possible ban on pornographic websites, similar to countries like the UAE.”
“Limit social media for children under 16”
Kundra also suggested restricting minors’ access to social media.“Consideration should be given to limiting access to social media platforms for children under the age of 16, ensuring a safer and more responsible digital environment,” he said.
“I support Harbhajan Singh”
Sticking to the former cricketer’s stand, Kundra said, “I also support the views expressed by my brother Harbhajan Singh, who has raised important points on this issue in Parliament.”Earlier, speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Harbhajan warned of the dangers to children’s mental health.“The future of our children is at risk. Many children are becoming addicted to platforms like Instagram and are being exposed to sexualized or semi-pornographic content at a very young age,” he said.The issue has sparked debate at the state level as leaders consider restrictions on social media access for children under the age of one. For those who don’t know, Raj Kundra ran into legal trouble in 2021 for alleged links to creating and distributing adult content, charges he has always denied.His latest remarks now shift from a personal discussion to a broader discussion about digital safety, regulation and the protection of young online users.
