New Delhi: The prospect of Jose Mourinho’s sensational return to Real Madrid has excited fans, but the Portuguese coach’s return depends solely on the club’s wishes.Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has publicly stated that Mourinho is his preferred choice to take charge at the Santiago Bernabeu should he secure another term as club president. However, with the presidential election still to come, any plans for the veteran manager are tied to the outcome of that vote.Perez made the revelation outlining his vision for the club after a disappointing campaign that ended without silverware. As well as discussing possible squad reinforcements, he named Mourinho as one of his preferred appointments should he remain in charge.The 79-year-old also confirmed that Liverpool defender Ibrahim Konate is part of his plans for the future. The France international is expected to be available after his current contract expires, and Perez believes he can strengthen Madrid’s backline.“We are working on all these signings. I can assure you that if I remain president of Real Madrid, Connett, the best defender in the world, will play for Real Madrid from next season. And if I remain at the helm of Real Madrid, he will not be the only top defender to join us.” He said.

The former Real Madrid boss is one of the most successful and recognizable managers in world football, having guided the club to a memorable La Liga title during his previous spell between 2010 and 2013.Explaining his choice, Perez said: “Mourinho is one of the great coaches in the world and he was very important to Real Madrid during his time with us. He was the coach of that famous record-breaking league season. He brought the team to the very heights of competition and that was very important for everything that followed. Mourinho and Connett are my first signings.”Perez also dismissed speculation over Vinicius Jr’s future, insisting: “Vinny is one of the best players in the world, and he is very happy to be a Madrid player. He was decisive in winning the last two European Cups, and he has a year left on his contract. There is still time, but I tell you that Vinicius wants to stay in Madrid and he wants to.”
