Over the years, the ‘Spider-Man’ actor Tom Holland he has been quite open about his dyslexia and how it has affected him. In a recent report, the actor also explained about having to turn down roles on ‘Saturday Night Live’ because of this.

While appearing on the latest episode of the ‘Good Hang’ podcast, the actor spoke to ‘SNL’ veteran Amy Poehler about never having done the show. He explained how his dyslexia has hindered some of the opportunities he has been offered in the past. “I’m very dyslexic, and that’s one of the reasons I’d love to talk to you today, actually. I’ve never done SNL,” she said, admitting that even though she’s been asked to host the show several times, she’s always dreaded the interview cards.For the uninitiated, the crew sets up interview cards for the celebrity guests along with the camera to make sure the skits are done right. Citing trouble reading the cards, Holland added, “I’m amazed at the concept of trying to read something and they change. I can read it well, but when I have to read it out loud, it becomes like a mental block, and I freeze up.”Even though he can’t do the show, he believes it’s following a great concept and “the idea of having fun and goofing around in such a creative way” appeals to him.

He also looked at how Holland deals with this in his everyday life and how he makes sure he learns his lines properly before reading them. “Like reading, I’ll try to highlight everything and learn my lines in advance, so I’m reading more than I’m reading,” she added.

Speaking to the BBC, Kay Carter of The Dyslexia Association also praised Holland for her openness about dyslexia and how important it is to start conversations about the issue. She added, “That kind of honesty really helps others see and understand,” adding that the actress was truly brave for her words.On the work front, Tom Holland is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Oddysey’ as well as ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ this year.
