He added, “When I used to practice on the cement wicket near my house, built by my father, he would stand behind the net. At that time, I was much younger than today. Whenever I played a few good shots, the bowlers would start throwing bouncers at me.” The youngster admitted that short-pitch bowling often frustrated him, but his father always knew how to cheer him up.“I used to get frustrated when they bowled bouncers, and that’s when my dad used to tell me stories about you. He’d say, ‘There was a legend of our time who used to hit the fearsome West Indies fast bowlers for sixes without a helmet.’ These stories inspired me a lot. He kept talking about you, and he stayed with me,” Suryavanshi said.
