To celebrate Marilyn Monroe and what would have been her 100th birthday, Greater Palm Springs Pride hosted a gathering of Marilyn Monroe peers in downtown Palm Springs over the weekend. The event was a huge success, with many people showing up to support the movement, dressed from head to toe in one of Monroe’s most iconic looks. Not only that, but the encounter also broke a Guinness record!
Those who look like Marilyn Monroe have broken the Guinness record
Videos and photos from the event went viral as crowds gathered in Palm Springs, wearing Monroe’s iconic blonde wig and white dress. As reported by The New York Post, around 500 people were originally scheduled to attend the event. They aimed to break the world record for the most Monroe impersonators, but the number far exceeded expectations. The last record was set in 2020, when 254 were gathered in Brighton, Australia.About 1,037 people gathered in the area to volunteer to dress up as actors and achieve the world record. Event attendees paid a US$75 registration fee, a white dress, the iconic platinum wig, a pair of cat-eye sunglasses and a martini glass to properly impersonate the actress.
How was this possible?
The organizer of the event, Ron deHart, explained how they planned to track everything. He told The Hollywood Times, “When people arrive, they’re going to scan a QR code that confirms they’re physically here. That’s the technology we’re using to document participation and verify attendance.”
