Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has opened his heart to the actor Deepika Padukone After raising eyebrows with his recent comments about his public image while filming the hit movie ‘Cocktail’.

Taking to his Instagram stories, Imtiaz directly addressed Deepika and sought to clear his remarks in the recent interview that has gone viral online. “My dearest and dearest @deepikapadukone,” he began and continued writing, “you are my friend, my friend, my safe choice for humor, I believe you will never misunderstand my intended funny remarks, because you know more than anyone else how much I love you, admire you, understand you, appreciate you... but I have been told that you will be misunderstood and may be hurt, I say don’t…”He further added, “To be mean to you is janam mein to possible nahin hai (Being mean to you is not possible in this life)… I never thought I would write such a note to you but time has passed and I didn’t want to take any chances. I wish you all the best and love always.”

The clarification comes after a video of Imtiaz went viral online. In the clip, he talked about the casting processcocktail’ In an interview with News18. Talking about the development of the film, the filmmaker revealed that Deepika was initially considered for the role of Meera, which was eventually played by Diana Penty. “I wrote a story called Cocktail, and they were trying to act it out. They gave Deepika to read for the part of Meera, then Diana played the role,” Imtiaz recalls.He added: “Then he called me, and I asked him to play Veronica. ‘Why don’t you read for Veronica?’The filmmaker further explained, “Veronica is very different from Deepika’s image at the time. But having been in the room and attending parties with her, I know how crazy and wild she can be, even though she was otherwise projecting a very ‘good girl’ image at the time.”He continued, “Now people have seen through the facade. So I thought it would be quite a new thing for Deepika. I knew that emotional base existed, so it was exciting.”

Deepika’s portrayal of Veronica in ‘Cocktail’ went on to become one of her career highlights and the film was a box office success.
