A fresh legal controversy has erupted in the film and political circles of West Bengal as a complaint has been filed against popular Bengali actors. Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee He has accused the Kolkata Police of inciting post-poll violence through social media posts after the 2021 state assembly elections.According to the IANS report, lawyer Joydeep Sen filed the complaint at the Gariahat police station on Thursday. He alleged that the two social media operatives had sparked tensions across the state on May 2, 2021, the day the election results were declared. Parambrata Chatterjee reportedly made a controversial post, which Swastika Mukherjee commented on.According to the report, Joydeep said, “A case has been filed against Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee under Article 107 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Their comments fueled the killing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, the rape and molestation of BJP women workers and violence by the Trinamool Congress in 2021.”The lawyer further alleged that as influential figures, the actors’ words carried weight and directly contributed to violence against BJP workers, including arson and sexual assault. Neither Parambrata nor Swastika have publicly responded to the allegation.The complaint followed a meeting at Technicians Studio called by BJP MLA and actor Rudranil Ghosh, where Parambrata was also present. In it, the actor revealed that he supported the previous Trinamool Congress government under alleged pressure from former state minister Aroop Biswas and his brother Swarup Biswas.“On that day, I did everything by looking at the newborn baby’s face and clenching my teeth. There was no other way. I did not come here to take personal revenge against anyone. But since I consider you a family member, I shared a personal insult. May there be a situation like this in the future,” he said.A clip of the statement went viral, sparking sharp criticism online, with many accusing the actor of opportunism, and the complaint came soon after.
