‘Karuppu’ mixes mythology and courtroom drama
Directed by RJ Balaji, ‘Karuppu’ is described as a mythological mass entertainer. The story follows Saravanan, played by Suriya, a lawyer who functions as a human avatar of the god Karuppusamy.Although the film continues to do well commercially, critical response has been mixed.ETimes, in its review of the film, wrote: “After the feel-good first half, director RJ Balaji seems so preoccupied with piling on the fan-service moments that the second half turns into full-on Reels mode, and the film gradually loses focus.”The review added, “As long as ‘Just the Things of the Morning’ continues, Karuppu works. But after ‘Just the Things of God’ ends, the film trades human emotion for divine spectacle, and comes out less powerful.”Despite the mixed reviews, the film has managed to maintain a strong theatrical run in the first week.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article have been collected from public and industry sources.
