‘The Boys’ finally ended with season 5, episode 8. With the two main protagonists of the gruesome show officially gone, the gang rode off into the sunset and lived their lives in peace (as much as they could), some even starting their own families. However, many fans were still wondering how some important characters from previous seasons didn’t make it to Season 5. At the top of this list is Queen Maeve, who was Dominique McElligott. Here’s why the actor never returned and why the character was written out of the last season.
Why was it Dominique McElligott is not in ‘The Boys’ season 5
Speaking with Goldie Derby, Erik Kripke explained why Maeve wasn’t the queen back for the final season. Kripke mentioned that the two were talking about returning to the show, and that he really wanted Dominique McElligott to be in the final season.Adding context to the whole scenario, he explained that it was a mutual thing, and since Dominique herself had mostly walked away from acting, she refused to reprise the role. She revealed: “I was chatting with Dom. We still email every once in a while. He’s mostly retired from acting, and his schedule didn’t work. It was a really nice, no-fuss thing. ‘If we wrote, would you do it?’Kripke also said he would “love” to bring back his character, though it ultimately didn’t work out.
When did Dominique McElligott appear on the show Queen Maeve
Queen Maeve was the last part of ‘The Boys’ in the last episode of season 3, when she officially gave up her powers to defeat Soldier Boy. Later, it is revealed that he faked his death, allowing him and Elena to live a quiet, separate life away from all the drama. However, there is still a reference to McElligott’s iconic character in the season finale. There is a small scene that shows Annie advising Marie to “never meet” her heroes. Speaking of Queen Maeve, Annie comments, “She was bitter, they checked. She gave so much of herself, there was nothing left… I swore to myself I would never let that happen, but it did.”The series finale ends with the deaths of Homelander and Butcher and all the remaining members of The Boys going off into the sunset to live their lives.
