Tamil Nadu alone generated 8.35 crore gross. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana contributed Rs 1.80 crore, while Karnataka contributed Rs 82 lakh. Kerala followed with 80 lakhs.ETimes’ review of the film says, “What initially makes Karuppu compelling is how it becomes entrenched in the legal proceedings surrounding Indrans and Anagha Maaya Ravi’s stolen jewel case. The first half spends a lot of time investing in his desperation, vulnerability and quest for justice, which gives the film its core and massive film its most effective idea. An ordinary man defies a God forced to live and act as a mortal.” We have Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji, effectively), a savvy lawyer who has played the system for so long that even the judge, Rajanayagam (Natty Subramaniam), appears to be dancing to his tunes. Preethi (Trisha Krishnan), a bona fide court lawyer, also struggles to win cases despite being able to prove malpractice. So when Baby Kannan bravely challenges Vettai Karuppu (Suriya, in aura-farming form), the god who descends to help the father-daughter duo without resorting to divine powers to win the case, Karuppu finds true dramatic tension because the conflict is rooted in divine invincibility rather than human play.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article have been collected from public and industry sources.
