Chennai jumped 5 spots in the rankings with a pass percentage of 92.34.

Chennai: Chennai district increased its ranking from 34 in 2025 to 29 in 2026. In terms of pass percentage, the district scored 92.34 — a jump from last year’s 90.73. Looking at the performance of government schools alone, the district achieved 86.25% pass rate – up from 82.84 in 2025. The ranking also improved marginally from 37 in 2024 to 33 in 2026.A total of 62,757 students appeared from the district — 31,791 girls and 30,966 boys. About 94.54% of girls passed the exam, leaving behind boys (90.08%).A total of 797 schools in the district – including private, corporation, Adi Dravidar and education department-run schools – took the exam. 207 out of the lot passed 100%. 29 of them were government schools.As far as the performance of government schools is concerned, 15840 students from 160 such schools took the test. Girls passed 89.74% and boys 82%.
