The body of 29-year-old Punjabi singer and makeup artist Inder Kaur, popularly known as Yashinder Kaur, has been recovered from Punjab’s Neelo canal, almost a week after she was reported missing following a suspected kidnapping in Ludhiana. The discovery on the morning of May 19 has sparked widespread outrage and prompted a police investigation into what the family alleges was a murder motivated by a marriage proposal.
Who was Yashinder Kaur?
Born in 1997, according to a News 18 report, Inder Kaur was a singer and makeup artist from Punjab who had a growing footprint in the Punjabi music industry. He released several songs over the years including ‘Afghan Jatti’, ‘Sohna Lagda’, ‘Laanedaarni’, ‘Desi Sirre De’, ‘Sone Di Wang’, ‘Kisaan Anthem’, ‘Jija’, ‘Rich Standard’, ‘Aakad’ and ‘Kado Ti Milegi’ among others. His live performances and social media presence earned him over 124,000 followers on Instagram at the time of his death.

According to the report, Inder Kaur was missing since May 13, according to PTC Punjab. On Tuesday, the 19th of the month, around 11:00, the body was pulled out of the Neelo canal. His family identified the body at the scene. The authorities then sent the remains to the Samrala Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination and completion of legal formalities.The singer’s brother, Jotinder Singh, lodged a police complaint regarding her disappearance, registering an FIR against the Moga residence on May 15. Sukhwinder Singhalias Sukha, and his partner Karamjit Singh. According to the complaint, Inder Kaur went out to buy groceries in her Ford Figo car on the evening of May 13 and never returned. Repeated calls went unanswered, prompting the family to search for him before approaching the police.The family alleged that Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Bhalur village in Moga district, sought to marry Inder Kaur, but she refused the proposal. It is said that he was kidnapped with Armila and later killed because of this personal enmity. According to an ABP report, the complainant alleged that the first accused fled to Canada and returned to Punjab shortly before the incident.Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that further legal action will follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.
