Director duo Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have delivered some big surprises in Marvel’s upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. As they patiently await the film’s trailer after all the positive reviews at CinemaCon, the directors, through their production company, teased fans about what they can expect to see unfold in theaters when the film opens on December 18, 2026.Currently deep in post-production on ‘Doomsday’, the Russo brothers, in their latest statement, promised a dramatic reinvention of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking about the ambitious new chapter of the MCU, Anthony Russo said via AGBO: “Doomsday is a complete reinvention. It’s a different swing. I don’t think the audience is expecting at all… what happens in the movie, its tone and its theme. It feels like another profound change for them in that serialized story.”The brothers also drew comparisons between the emotional and ideological conflicts and expected tensions in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.Between Avengers: Doomsday’ Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and Steve Rogers.“Tony Stark and Steve Rogers remain very empathetic and rootable and to this day you’ll find people are divided on who they relate to more. [Civil War]”, explained the filmmakers and added, “it’s the unresolved intentions of these characters and the flaws of these characters. It continues to unfold as we head into Doomsday.’With ‘Doomsday’ all set to release, the directors are also working round the clock to begin work on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which is set to release in August.The brothers were also asked how they balance the huge expectations people have about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joe told CWRU editors, “We got to make a film that touches on the things that we enjoy and that move us. A lot of times you dig into the 12-year-old version of yourself to try to understand what it is. [your favourite movies] were”.Marvel will release “Doomsday” in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026, and its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” will hit theaters next year on Dec. 17, 2027.
