CSK suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Lucknow Supergiants in their previous game, while SRH were beaten by Gujarat Titans by 87 runs. Despite this, both teams are in strong contention for the playoffs. Hyderabad currently lead the way with seven wins from 12 matches and are third in the table, but another defeat could complicate their path to qualification.
Chennai, meanwhile, is fighting with its back against the wall. Rutoraj Gaikwad’s side have recovered admirably after losing their first three matches of the season, but they now need victories in the remaining two games and favorable results elsewhere.
Historically, CSK have dominated this rivalry, winning 16 out of 24 between the sides. However, SRH beat Chennai earlier this season and will take confidence from the result in the high-pressure contest at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
