Sharing the picture on Instagram, Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar wrote, “Irrfan and I produced this gem. I wrote a leprosy film, and Irrfan turned it into a beautiful love story.”He also revealed the newcomer of the time Nawazuddin Siddiqui‘s humble presence on set, he added, “@nawazuddin._siddiqui was very new to the industry at that time. I remember him saying ‘ji ji’ to everyone…our junior from NSD. It was a small setup, big dreams, bigger passion.”The text within the viral video provided a deeper context into Irrfan’s directorial philosophy. He said: “He had a strong vision. And unlike many directors I met in television at that time, he rarely believed.”

Originally conceived as a story about leprosy, the late actor reimagined it as a love story. The video’s narration stated, “So few people know that Irrfan directed Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It was new, fresh and my favorite Nawaz performance so far!”Nawazuddin himself has previously confirmed the importance of this project, telling The Times of India: “No one knows that it was Irrfan who directed me as an actor in a film called Alvida in 2000. It was my first film as a lead actor and his as a director… If he had done that, he would have been as successful a filmmaker as he was as an actor.”

Irrfan Khan died on 29 April 2020 at Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Kokilab, Mumbai. The actor was 53 years old. He died of a colon infection while battling a neuroendocrine tumor, a condition he was initially diagnosed with in March 2018.His last release was ‘Angrezi Medium’, which hit theaters in March 2020 shortly before his death.
