Virat Kohli has often said that Anushka Sharma changed the way he looked at food, health and animals. The cricketer became a vegetarian due to health issues, but Anushka also credited her compassion for animals to shape her choice. The couple, who got married in 2017 and are parents to daughter Vamika and son Akaay, continue to follow a vegetarian lifestyle while enjoying food all over India and abroad.

In a 2020 interview with Vogue, Virat talked about Anushka’s influence on his life and food choices. “Anushka has given me a new life. I wasn’t the most understanding or balanced person before I met her. She has inspired me to be a better person and I feel blessed to spend time with the most amazing woman I know.”He also said that Anushka’s love for animals changed her perspective on eating meat. “Anushka has been a vegetarian for four years, and two years ago for health reasons. I can never eat meat again because of her love for animals, it made me look at things differently,” she said.In an Instagram Live session, Virat said he became a vegetarian for health reasons and later called it the “best decision” he ever made. “It made me wonder why I didn’t do it earlier,” she said.

Anushka became a vegetarian in 2015. In a 2017 interview with Elle India, she said, “It was difficult for me to become a vegetarian, but it was a conscious choice I made.” He added: “My love for animals and spiritual reasons led to this lifestyle change.”He also said that the change has helped health. “I’ve noticed since I’ve gone vegetarian that I don’t get sick as often. I’ve also become more aware of the environment. I want to set a good example as a human being,” he said.Their food choices have followed them on their travels. But since they were eating gluten-free at the time, we went with traditional Phon and gluten-free rice noodles,” he said. He also served the snake gourd as a playful “snake” for the vegan meal.In 2022, Anushka found Delhi-style chole bhature for Virat in Mumbai’s Delhi Se. The Indian Express reported that its publication brought new attention to the struggling restaurant.
