Martin Short remembers his wife and daughter’s last words
Reflecting on his final minutes with his wife and daughter, Short revealed that they had said similar words in their last breath. “Martin, let me go,” Short recalled saying to Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010 at the age of 58. “Katherine was saying, ‘Daddy, let me go,'” he recalled of his daughter, who died by suicide at age 42, in an interview with The NYC Times. Speaking about his new documentary, he said: “I see no difference between mental illness as a disease and cancer as a disease. In some cases, both are terminal. And in some cases, both are survivable.”
Martin Short says his wife’s death was a nightmare for the family
Earlier, the ‘Father of the Bride’ actor said that Katherine’s death has been a nightmare for the family. Saying that her daughter did the best she could until she couldn’t, the Tony Award winner explained in an appearance on CBS News Sunday Morning: “Sometimes with illnesses, they’re terminal. My daughter struggled for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder and other things.“
Martin Short explains his wish
In an effort to bring mental health out of the shadows, Martin Short joined an organization, Bring Change to Mind. Revealing her wish, the ‘A Simple Wish’ actress said: “to bring mental health out of the shadows, without shame, without hiding the word ‘suicide’, but accepting that it can be the final stage of an illness.”
