During Lucknow Supergiants’ nine-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekna Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Prince bowled Kohli for two balls. The ball comes back quick from a good length and beats Kohli.
After the match, Prince said that the wicket came from advice that Kohli himself had given him after the two teams had met earlier.
“After the last match, I was talking to him, and he told me if the ball is doing something with length, don’t leave it, so, I did that, and it worked,” Prince told broadcasters.
Speaking on the RCB podcast, Kohli confirmed the conversation and said that senior players should help young cricketers improve.
“Yes, he bowled me a great ball, and I told him to bowl in those areas. That’s fine,” Kohli said.
Kohli said he knew Prince during the Vijay Hazare Trophy and often shared inputs with him.
“I went and played Vijay Hazare. [Trophy]. I did not know Prince at all. He’s such a sweet guy, and he’s so funny. I got very close to him, and he spoke very well for me. I was telling him what to do and where to bowl even through these Vijay Hazare Trophy games. You have to share the experience. You won’t be here forever. If people get a chance to learn and improve in their career, eventually they play for India and the standard of cricket stays high.”
Kohli also revealed that he spoke to Mohammad Siraj before RCB’s IPL match against Gujarat Titans this season.
“Before playing Gujarat [Titans] In Bengaluru, I spoke to Siraj on the boundary. I told him my observations—how I had seen him run and how it was different from before. He talked to me about rhythm. And we’re playing them two days later… I should be able to play the best version of it. I want him to perform at his best so that I can compete with him. I am ready for the best version of everyone. If someone is struggling, this is my chance to help. That’s how I see it,” Kohli explained.
The former India captain also spoke about helping players from rival IPL teams, saying the bigger picture is Indian cricket.
Referring to Yashvi Jaiswal, Kohli said: “You see my situation. If Yishvi Jaiswal approaches me before I play Rajasthan Royals, right? He’s probably been looking at me for a long time. Now I’m thinking, ‘He needs help’. Even though he’s going to play against us, if he plays one season, he’ll play well. For India, how can I help him tomorrow?” Or he can score against us the day after tomorrow. It’s fine,” Kohli said during an appearance on the RCB podcast.
“Even with Jaiswal scoring, we have to find a way to win. Whatever it is, he may or may not. I’m not saying he will. It’s possible he can. So, naturally, I can’t go into a place where I say, ‘He needs help. Do it now.’ He is going to practice in two hours. He probably called me once on the way to the game. So, I’m thinking it will help him improve his game. He could score some runs, he could have a great season, it could open things up for him.“
