New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin has called for an immediate change in the DRS rules following a controversial incident off the final ball during the IPL 2026 clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala on Thursday. The former India spinner took to social media after Punjab refused to give him a leg bye despite successfully overturning the LBW decision on review off the last ball of his innings.“Punjab has lost a run due to this wrong decision, this rule needs to be changed asap! Just like Impact Sub is the IPL rule, DRS change should also be brought into IPL even if ICC delays it for some reason,” Ashwin posted. The final ball controversy sparked a debate. The incident happened when Jasprit Bumrah got Vishnu Vinod lbw off the last ball of Punjab’s innings. The on-field umpire raised his finger but the batsman immediately checked.Replays showed that the ball had missed the stumps, and the decision was overturned. However, because the umpire had given him out early, the ball was already declared dead, meaning Punjab were not given the leg-bye they had completed.Ashwin pointed out that the wrong on-field call effectively cost Punjab a run, reigniting the debate over whether the IPL should freely change the state of play.Punjab recover after 200.The incident ended a dramatic innings in which Punjab had reached 200 for 8 while they were in danger of being derailed.Prabhasmaran Singh starred with 57 and shared a fast opening stand with Priyansh Arya. But Mumbai counter-attacked through Shardul Thakur, who took four wickets to decimate the middle order. With Punjab slipping badly, Azmatullah Omarzai struck back late with 38 off 17 balls, while Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett added crucial runs at the death.
