Mumbai Indians The captain
Jaspreet Bumrah won the toss and decided to bowl first in the Punjab Kings vs IPL 2026 match at Dharamsala on Thursday.
Jasprit Bumrah became the 10th captain to lead the Mumbai Indians, as both their regular skipper Hardik Pandya and stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav were unavailable for selection.
MI brought in Rutherford and Shardul, with Rohit likely to be their impact player later in the game.
“We have decided to bowl first. We watched the last match and felt that maybe with the cold weather it will come under the wicket, it feels good. I came here when I was 19. I didn’t think I would be a Test captain before I became MI captain (smiles). I like the responsibility, it’s a new challenge and I will try to enjoy it. As much as we can, we can have three games left and we want to enjoy and maybe rotate some teams. Surya is not here for personal reasons and Allah is not there,” Bumrah said at the toss.
While PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said, “We would have bowled first. The wicket looks a bit dry. We don’t know yet how the pitch will play so just be positive about it. We have to stop thinking about what went wrong. We have to think about being in good shape and thinking positively. Harpreet Brar, Zavirullah Bartle and Azmat Omerza are among them.”
