The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), launched by the Centre, aims to improve youth employability and workplace exposure.The aim of this scheme is to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in five years. Under the programme, selected candidates are placed with companies for practical on-the-job training to improve their job readiness.The pilot phase of the PM Internship Scheme began with a target of offering 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in 2024-25.
Who can apply for PM Internship Scheme?
The internship program is open to youth who are not in full-time employment. Candidates trained in ITIs and Skilled Centers are eligible to apply under the scheme. However, candidates who have graduated from institutes like IITs and IIMs as well as candidates with qualifications like CA and CMA are excluded from the programme.Internships are designed to last 12 months, with at least half of the period focused on work experience.
PM Internship Scheme Scholarship
Under the scheme, interns get monthly financial assistance from the government. Participating companies also provide additional support through their CSR initiatives.Apart from the monthly stipend, financial assistance for incidental expenses is also provided to the selected candidates. Insurance coverage is also included under government schemes for interns.
