New Delhi: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched ‘Samrathan: Internship Connect Scheme 2026-27’ to provide internship opportunities to students from geographically remote and backward areas of the country. The initiative was inaugurated by AICTE Chairman Prof. Yogesh Singh in the presence of AICTE Member Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath.This scheme is introduced for students from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and North Eastern States. Under this initiative, selected students will undertake a 30-day on-campus internship at institutions including IITs, IIMs, IIITs, IISERs, NITs, NITTTRs, NIDs, NIFTs and IHMs. AICTE said that 611 students will participate in the program during the current academic session.Internship programs to provide educational exposureAccording to AICTE, the internship program aims to provide academic, professional and cultural exposure through interaction with leading institutions and innovation ecosystems. Students will attend expert lectures, participate in laboratory training, and interact with faculty members, researchers, students, and alumni.Participants will also visit innovation and incubation centers to learn about entrepreneurship initiatives, research activities and emerging technologies. AICTE said that the program is expected to improve students’ skills, confidence and employability.Speaking on the occasion, AICTE Chairman Prof. Yogesh Singh said, “Samrathan reflects the commitment of the Government of India to ensure equal opportunities for every student, irrespective of geographical location. India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity, and every region of the country has unique talent, culture and potential. Through this initiative, AICTE is committed to connect students from remote areas with the best educational and innovation ecosystem in the country. This scheme will not only expose them to world-class institutions but also inspire them to achieve higher aspirations in education, research, innovation and business. I am confident that Summerthon will significantly increase the skills, confidence and employability of the participating students.”Eligibility criteria and financial supportThe internship program is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are domiciled in eligible regions and are studying in AICTE approved institutions. Eligible subjects include Engineering and Technology, Management, Design, Applied Arts and Crafts, BBA, BCA, and Hotel Management and Catering Technology. Students can undertake up to two internships during undergraduate studies and one internship during postgraduate studies.As part of the scheme, food and accommodation for the selected students will be arranged by the host institutions and paid for by AICTE at the rate of Rs.500 per student per day. Students will also get reimbursement of travel expenses equivalent to sleeper class rail fare on successful completion of internship and submission of required travel documents.AICTE Member Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath said, “The Summerthan scheme will help students build confidence, enhance their knowledge, and develop a professional network.
