In a chat with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Junaid was asked if he discusses his film projects with his father Aamir Khan. He quickly shut that idea down, saying, “No, because I made that mistake with Ek Din.” He went on to explain the story behind it, revealing the filmmakers Siddharth P Malhotra He first approached to acquire the rights of the Thai film “One Day” before the shooting of “Maharaj” and expressed his desire to do the film with Junaid. At that time, the script was still being worked on. Later, when both were busy shooting for ‘Maharaj’, Siddharth sat down with Junaid and told him the entire script of ‘Ek Din’ and Junaid instantly fell in love.

Siddharth, however, told Junaid that directing the film at that time could not be possible for him as he was fully engaged with ‘Maharaj’, and that he would bring in another director instead. Junaid decided to take the script to his father and get his thoughts. What followed was something that Junaid didn’t really expect, Aamir heard the narration and was so moved that he immediately wanted to produce the film. Junaid recalled how his father had made an emotional request to Siddharth that was difficult to refuse. He said, “So he asked to let us produce. Mere bete ke liye mujhe ek chance mil raha hai please (So he asked them to let us produce. ‘Please, I have an option for my son’).Junaid added, “Papa is a great producer, but what happens in the end is that it takes 5 years to make it. Then I realized that if I take it to dad, it will be like I’m going to produce it and I’ll have a film in 5 years. That’s great for him, but I’ve just started. Dad is dying to do another film with me, but even when I’m not nervous. With Maharaj, I don’t know why you’re doing it like this. Are you sure this is the right movie for you?
