NEET UG 2026 has been cancelled.: The National Testing Agency has canceled the NEET UG 2026 exam scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026, and announced that the test will be re-conducted on dates to be notified separately. The decision was announced by the NTA through an official statement released on its X account on 12 May 2026.In its statement, the NTA said the decision was taken “with the approval of the Government of India” after information reviewed with central agencies and joint investigation findings by law enforcement officials. The agency said “the current examination process cannot be allowed to stand”.The re-examination schedule will be announced.The updated exam dates and revised admit card schedule will be notified through official channels in the coming days, NTA said. The agency also requested candidates and parents to rely only on official notifications and avoid unverified reports circulating on social media.The matter was earlier referred to central agencies on May 8, 2026, for “independent verification and necessary action” to maintain the “fair, safe and reliable conduct” of national examinations, the statement added.CBI inquiry orderThe Government of India has also decided to refer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations related to the examination. NTA said it will provide all materials, records and assistance required by the investigating agency.The agency acknowledged the impact of this decision on students and families. According to the statement, re-conducting the exam will cause “real and significant inconvenience” to the candidates, but added that the decision was “taken in the interest of the students and in recognition of the trust reposed in the national examination system”.Registration details must be correctThe NTA clarified that the registration data, candidature details and examination centers selected during May 2026 will remain valid for the re-conducted examination. No fresh registration process will be required for re-appearing candidates.No additional examination fee will be charged, the agency added. He also announced that the fees already paid by the candidates would be refunded.
