The Madras High Court has issued a fresh order in a check bounce case related to his starrer film ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ Rajinikanth. The court warned that if the remaining compensation is not paid before April 20, the producer’s representative will have to serve six months in prison. It comes with a case Murali ManoharThe director of Media One Global Entertainment, who had earlier challenged a lower court’s order that sentenced him to prison in a check fraud case.
Antecedents of financial disputes
According to News 18, the problem started when Media One Global Entertainment borrowed 10 million from Ad Bureau Advertising to release the film. To repay part of the amount, the company sent checks for 5 million euros to the advertising company. However, when the checks were deposited in the bank, the payment was stopped after the production company instructed the bank not to process the amount. As a result, the advertising company did not receive the money. After that, the owner of the company Abhirchand Nahar filed a check fraud case against Murali Manohar and company.
Prior court order and appeal
A Chennai court had earlier sentenced Murali Manohar to six months in prison and ordered him to pay Rs 7.70 crore as compensation with interest to the complainant. Against this precedent decision, Murali Manohar has approached the Madras High Court through a petition. The Madras High Court has suspended the sentence while he is on bail. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 2.52 million in court within 8 weeks.
Final order of the High Court and deadline
In the last hearing, Manohar sought an extension to make the remaining payment. Justice Sundar Mohan considered the petition and observed that Rs 25 lakh had already been paid. The judge then ordered Murali Manohar to pay the remaining Rs 2.27 crore in two installments. According to the order, 1 million must be paid before March 20, and the remaining 1.27 million before April 20.
