Mudassar Aziz was quick to push back against the criticism, pointing to his wider body of work as proof. In an interview to Mid-Day he said, “This is my seventh film. I have never done a film that legitimizes infidelity.” The filmmaker added that he feels misunderstood when such accusations arise.He paid special attention to the way women were written in his films. The director explains, “Both Ayushmann and I have a history of making films that don’t touch gender politics in the wrong way. In ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’. [2019]the husband faces the consequences of his actions as his wife and girlfriend join forces. In ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’ [2016]I created a protagonist who chooses his partner. Women have always had agency in my films. They are never passive recipients of male behavior.’
How Ayushmann Khurrana said yes after three narrations
Convincing Ayushmann Khurrana to come on board was not an easy task. The director revealed that it took several sittings before the actor was completely sold on the role. Mudassar Aziz said, “We had three rounds of narration. The first time, Ayushmann said he wanted to hear it again. Before the third narration was over, he was having so much fun that he said, ‘Let’s do it.'” He comes with a history of difficult subjects. He is never afraid of complicated emotional space.’
