Kiara Advani recently opened up about the emotional story behind her debut appearance at the Met Gala 2025, which also marked the debut of her baby bump on a global platform. From revealing how her pregnancy inspired the outfit to sharing how nervous she was about attending the global fashion event at first, the actress spoke candidly about the experience.During the interview, Raj Shamani mentioned reports that Kiara’s Met Gala dress generated nearly $15 million in organic media value online.Reacting to the reports, the actress admitted that she was surprised by the level of attention the look received. Kiara added that celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajnia and designer Gaurav Gupta were always her first choices for the event.“The day I told my brother I was going to the Met Gala and asked him if he would style me, he immediately said, ‘Let’s get Gaurav to do something’. We never thought about it after that,” said the actor.
“I wanted the outfit to connect with my pregnancy”
Kiara also revealed that she specifically wanted her pregnancy to be reflected in the design of the outfit.“My only brief to Gaurav was that while I understood there was a theme, we could somehow relate it to my pregnancy? How often do you go to the Met Gala while you’re pregnant?” he saidThe actress shared that she went to the event in the last stage (before the seventh month) and the doctor gave her permission to travel.“I was wondering if I should go because it was a long journey and I was pregnant. But my best friend told me afterwards that if I found out my baby was going to the Met Gala and she didn’t go, she would fight me about it,” she recalled.
Umbilical cord inspired concept and metallic chest
Talking about the now-viral outfit, Kiara revealed that Gaurav Gupta conceptualized the design around an umbilical cord motif and a heart-shaped structure.“He came up with the whole concept of the small intestine and turning it into a heart,” he explained.The actress also shared that she personally loves the designer’s signature metallic bras and asked her to incorporate that aesthetic into the final look.“It felt very personal in addition to being on an iconic platform,” he added.
“Everyone is the same inside the Met Gala”
Kiara described the Met Gala as one of the most organized and open experiences of her life.“Once you’re inside, everyone’s the same. No entourage, no manager, no PR team – everyone’s there as a guest,” he shared.The actor called it his first major international networking experience where he interacted with people from different industries and walks of life.She concluded by saying that the whole journey felt emotional and “full circle”, adding that she and Gaurav Gupta documented the process because it meant so much to them.
