While talking to PEOPLE about how her life was after the car accident, she mentioned that nothing in her life mattered anymore. He added, “I didn’t care about my career or my image or my reputation, or how I was going to come back from this. I didn’t care because they didn’t care.”“In those moments, you see every part of your life on fire,” he said, adding that what Dobbins’ family was going through at the time was ten times worse and he put himself ‘first’ before anything else. “It was no longer about how many tickets I sell or how many streams a song gets or whether my songs are respected in the upper echelons of critical acclaim,” he added.Not only that, the incident also left Smith unsure of his future and with many questions. He said “you just can’t understand. And those questions will live on. There will never be an answer to why that tragic thing would have happened or why I was on that road at that second.”

During the interview, he also shared that Leah, his wife, was with him throughout and was his biggest supporter. “In terms of our marriage, honestly, all she did was strengthen and unite more than anything. She is that rock. This tragedy reminded me of all the reasons I chose her as my wife. She embodies peace,” he concluded.

Dorothy Dobbins was a 77-year-old attorney and pedestrian who walked through an intersection in the Germantown area of Nashville. In June of last year, he was hit by a car that proved to be fatal for him. Conner Smith was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the time. In February of this year, at the request of his family, all charges against the country singer were completely dropped, and he was not charged with any crime.Smith will return to play a number of shows on Thomas Rhett’s ‘The Soundtrack to Life Tour’.
