Anil KapoorSridevi, Urmila Matondkar starrer ‘Judaai’ is still remembered for its unique story and songs. Jaspinder Narula sang the popular song ‘Mujhe ek pal chain na aaye’ from the film and the singer recently brought back a touching memory to this song which was his Bollywood debut. In a recent interview, the singer revealed that years later, Mona Shourie Kapoor confided in him about the difficult phase he was going through while recording the song for producer Boney Kapoor’s film.Jaspinder recalled how the song became an entry point for playback singing in Bollywood. The film starred Sridevi, Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar. Talking about the initial narration he received before recording the song, the singer shared in an interview with Bollywood Thikana, “I was told that they were picturing the song on Sridevi. In the film they explained the situation: Anil Kapoor remarries because he takes the money.“Jaspinder also revealed that she was struggling with a serious ear condition at the time of the shoot. “My ears were covered with mucus and one ear was completely blocked. I sang the song with great difficulty,” he said.The singer also recalled how singer Hariharan encouraged him after the recording session. “Hariharan ji said to me, ‘Where were you? We have been watching you on TV for so long. You have just entered the industry, but you should have come much earlier,'” he recalled.
He also briefly crossed paths with Sridevi during that time. “I met Sridevi two or three times,” he added. However, years later, after becoming close friends with Mona Kapoor, the song became emotionally meaningful in a completely different way. Jaspinder shared that Mona revealed what she went through at the same time she was recording the song. “I was very close to Mona Kapoor. Later, when I was recording the song, he told me what was going on at the time. Someone’s house was being built while someone else’s was being torn down,” said Jaspinder.Narrating Mona’s words, “she said to me, ‘You were singing inside, and I was crying outside, when I found out sitting on the steps of Super Sound (studio).’ He knew everything at the same time. This is what he shared with me.’ Earlier, in an interview with Chanda Kochhar on his YouTube channel, he also spoke about how Boney Kapoor had informed Mona Kapoor about his relationship with Sridevi. Mona, who passed away in 2012, was the mother of actors Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor.“My first wife, I said, I confessed to her,” Boney said, referring to a ring he was wearing. “Look at this ring that I’m wearing, and the ring that she (Sridevi) was wearing. Both were bought by Mona. I told her clearly and that’s how she raised the children without creating any hatred towards me or the other children,” he shared.
