Around 130 people were arrested around Paris overnight after clashes between fans and police after Paris Saint-Germain reached the Champions League final, French Interior Minister Laurent Novez said on Thursday.According to news agency AP, 127 people were arrested in the Paris metropolitan area, including 107 in Paris. PSG beat Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final for the second time in a row since 2020.He said that 11 people were injured during the unrest, including one person who was seriously injured by a mortar. Twenty-three policemen also sustained minor injuries.The clashes took place outside PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium and on the Champs-Elysées. Police moved in to disperse the groups and prevent rioters from blocking the Paris Ring Road.“I strongly condemn it, there are always hundreds of people responsible for these abuses during these festivals who try to clash with law enforcement agencies,” Novez said.“I would like to thank the police prefect and all his teams who intervened systematically in accordance with my instructions, and my predecessors”.Nunez also praised the police for preventing property damage and possible looting of shops.He said that security arrangements will be further strengthened for the Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30 in Budapest, Hungary.France has seen many such incidents in recent years.When PSG won the Champions League last year, more than 500 people were arrested across France. A 20-year-old man was killed in Paris when his scooter was hit by a car during the celebrations.The violence continued the next day.In 2020, after PSG lost to Bayern in the Champions League final, Paris police arrested 148 people following clashes between fans and officers. Windows of cars and shops were damaged during the unrest.In 2013, when PSG won the French league title for the first time in 19 years, celebrations were disrupted after fans clashed with riot police for several hours. Thirty people were injured.
