The copyright dispute between Trimurti Films and the makers of Dhurandhar 2 over the song ‘Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)’ has taken a new turn.The Delhi High Court informed him that the mediation between the two parties has failed. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela has now listed him for trial on May 8, the Bar and Bench reported.
What is the issue?
Trimurti Films has alleged that the song ‘Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)’ from Dhurandhar 2 uses the composition of ‘Tirchi Topiwala’ from the 1989 film Tridev without permission.The original song, featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Sonam Khan, was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji along with Viju Shah with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee. Trimurti Films has claimed these amounts as copyright infringement and objected to their use in the film and promotions.
What did the managers say?
Super Cassettes Industries, which owns the audio rights, opposed the interim measures. They said that Trimurti Films has not been completely transparent and has ignored previous similar cases.Producer B62 Films told the court that the film has been released in theaters and may come to OTT platforms only by mid-May.The court had previously referred the case to mediation, but no resolution was reached. The case will now be held on May 8. the director Aditya DharDhurandhar 2: The Revenge stars Ranveer Singh and serves as a sequel to Dhurandhar (2025). The film explores the origin story of his character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, his transformation into Hamza Ali Mazari and his rise in Lyari’s underworld while pursuing a bigger mission.The ensemble cast includes Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun with Danish Pandor and Udaybir Sandhu in key roles. The film also has a cameo by Yami Gautam.
