The actor credited the film for giving him visibility, awards and a clear turning point in his career. He praised her too Kriti Sanon for him National Award win and said the actor deserved the honor for his performance in the 2021 film.
How did ‘Mimi’ become a turning point for Sai Tamhankar?
Speaking to India Today, Sai reflected on the film that shaped his career in Hindi cinema. “I think it has to be Mimi. Mimi kind of marked my existence in the industry, that’s what I feel. Mimi also gave me a lot of awards. So I think that was a turning point,” he said.Sai also talked about how success has changed the way he views roles. When asked what she finds harder now, getting strong parts or saying no to averages, she says that giving up has always been hard.“I think saying no to work has always been difficult for me. I struggle quite a bit with myself to say no to work. And sometimes what happens is, you do a certain thing, and then you get called for the same type of role,” he said.The actor added that he tries to avoid being typecast, even though it hurts him to turn down work. “When you say no, then it feels good, it feels justified because I won’t do the same. But sometimes 7-8 opportunities are repeated, and when you have to say no, it hurts a lot. Because the only way to not stay a guy is to say no to a similar type of work. And that’s really hard on the heart,” he said.

Sai also admitted that the box office numbers cross his mind. “I’m not going to lie. Sometimes I think yes, I should be part of a blockbuster movie. Of course, sometimes you think in numbers. Of course you’re going to get into that race,” he said.He added that he has participated in successful projects like ‘Ghajini’, ‘Duniyadari’ and ‘Mimi’. Sai said that ‘Mimi’ could have made an even bigger impact had it been released in theatres. “If Mimi had been released in theatres, it would have really changed the game,” he said.He also said that a theatrical release of a female-led film like ‘Mimi’ could help change the trend. The film still found love on OTT and won the National Award.Sai praised Kriti and said, “Kriti deserved the National Award very well.” He also shared that they remain close. “We’re still in touch.
