Chitrangda Singh everything is ready to appear next to it Salman Khan for the first time in ‘Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace’, and the audience is excited to see him in a completely new avatar. The actor recently opened up about the brief he was given, the process of embodying his role and how it differs from characters he has played in the past.

Speaking to Variety India, Chitrangda said, “Well, the thing was that they didn’t want me to look like Chitrangda at all. That was one thing that was very clear.” He talked about how it went, “the usual tools of actors, of course. I think when we worked on the hair, the clothes and so on. Suddenly I looked like a different person. I started acting differently, sitting differently. My whole body language changed!”.Singh spoke more about her role and said, “This character is that of a completely simple woman who is totally in love with family, husband, kids and believes ‘My home is my temple’.”

Throughout her two-decade film career, she has taken on various roles portraying different types of women. In ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ she essayed Geeta, a woman who has returned to London and is teaching and doing social work in a village. In ‘Desi Boyz’, she played Tanya, a college teacher. She was recently seen in the Netflix film ‘Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders’ as Meera Bansal, a member of a powerful media family.
Chitrangda Singh on why ‘Maatrubhumi’ is a refreshing change
Singh seems particularly drawn to her role in “Maatrubhumi”, which she says is a welcome departure from the female characters she has portrayed in the past. “It was really nice to play someone who’s so soft, so giving, so fully invested. I think it’s in your being, more than the dialogue, and that’s what I was trying to do with the character. I hope it comes that way. She is very different from the type of woman Sudhir (Mishra) would write. I loved it and I really enjoyed playing a simple woman.’
‘Maatrubhumi’ movie details and release update
Originally titled “Battle of Galwan”, “Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace” is based on the 2020 India-China conflict in the Galwan Valley. the director Apoorva Lakhia and the Salman Khan Films-produced military drama released its teaser in December 2025 before changing its title. While it was earlier expected to hit theaters in April 2026, the makers have yet to lock in a new release date, eyeing August. Touted as a ‘Himesh Reshammiya musical’, the film has already released several songs.
