Spielberg was talking about the importance of movie theaters when he made a comment during a SXSW keynote. After saying that he values streaming and likes to work with OTT platforms, “But for me, the real experience is to bring a community together in a strange and dark space where we are all strangers.” He went on to say that a really good movie experience matches “a whole bunch of feelings that we walk around in the daylight or at night.“
“And there is nothing like it. It happens in movies and concerts. And it happens in ballet and opera, by the way,” he mentioned. Spielberg smiled as the audience erupted in laughter and cheers. “And we want to keep it that way,” he continued. “We want that to go forever.”
