Vijay’s much anticipated film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has reportedly suffered a major financial setback. The film is said to have suffered a loss of nearly 70 crores after the leak.
OTT deal falls in ‘Jana Nayagan
Before the leak, the film had bagged a lucrative digital deal. According to a report by Track Tollywood, Prime Video acquired the OTT rights for 120 crores.
After the leak surfaced, the platform announced that it had canceled the deal. This decision has had the effect of recovering the film’s income.
The cancellation wasn’t just due to the leak. Reports suggest that release delays, linked to pending censor clearance, also contributed to the move.
The new OTT offering of Vijay’s film sees a steep decline
Reports claim that KVN Productions approached another digital platform to secure a new deal.
However, the offer received was significantly lower. The new OTT platform reportedly put up Rs 50 crore for the film. This represents a significant drop from the previous Rs 120 crore deal.
The film was leaked online on April 9. Shortly thereafter, the perpetrators began legal action against those responsible. The legal team representing KVN Productions LLP issued a public warning. It warns against sharing leaked content, including clips, images or full versions of the film.
The leak caused strong reactions throughout the film industry. Chiranjeevi wrote, “#Jananayagan’s unfortunate leak is what worries me deeply. Cinema is built on the trust, effort and collective dreams of many. Events like this affect all of us in the industry and remind us how crucial it is to protect our creative work. My thoughts and support are with the film crew. Let’s all take responsibility to respect and protect cinema. Kill Piracy. Save the movie.”
Sivakarthikeyan added, “Each film is made with the passion, blood and sweat of hundreds of people, please avoid piracy. Please wait in the theater and watch it in theaters. Whoever is responsible for this should face strict action. Respect the talents. Respect the hard work. Respect the industry. #JanaNayagan.”
GV Prakash Kumar posted, “Don’t condone piracy. Respect talent and hard work. So much blood and sweat goes into filmmaking. Painful.”
Karthik Subbaraj reacted, “Shocked by leak of #JanaNayagan footage, PIRACY is a crime…. Please STOP Cinema and its people before they die completely.”
