Declyn “Dex” Lauper, son of the famous pop icon Cyndi Lauperhe won’t be in prison in 2024 on gun-related charges. According to recent reports, Lauper pleaded guilty to the charges nearly two years after the incident actually occurred. He reportedly struck a deal that ensures he won’t have to spend time in jail while he remains in custody.

The New York Post reports that under the deal, Lauper will remain on parole. Other terms of his deal include being completely arrest-free for at least a year. Not only that, but he has been ordered to go to substance abuse treatment.The report also stated that after one year, when all conditions are fully met, he will be able to request that his charge be reduced to a non-violent felony. In particular, it would allow him to apply to change his charge to criminal possession of a firearm.Had he been convicted at trial, he would have had to serve 7 years in prison.

In 2024, Lauper was arrested after shooting a 24-year-old man in Harlem. The report said Lauper was carrying a fanny pack that contained a gun at the time. This resulted in a criminal complaint, and two increased charges, based on the statement that he possessed the gun “with the intent to use it unlawfully against another.”
