The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has dismissed claims of delays and technical glitches in the examination of Class 12 answer sheets under its newly introduced on-screen marking system. The board asserted that the process is working “perfectly” and is firmly on schedule, as reported by PTI. Speaking to PTI, Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj clarified that reports suggesting bottlenecks in the digital assessment system are “far from the truth”. He reiterated that the board is following its set timeline, with the Class 12 results expected to be announced. Third week of MayAs indicated earlier.The on-screen marking system, introduced to modernize the assessment methods, allows examiners to digitally review answer scripts instead of handling physical copies. The move aims to speed up the vetting process, maintain consistency, and enable faster compilation of results.Despite initial concerns raised by sections of the media, CBSE has maintained that the system is functioning smoothly and delivering the desired results.

Preliminary timeline and examination cycle

The CBSE Class 12 board exams for 2026 were conducted between February 17 and April 10, covering lakhs of students across the country. After the completion of the examinations, the assessment phase began in a phased manner, supported by a digital marking framework.Earlier indications pointed to the results timeline at the end of April, but the board has consistently maintained that the results will be released in May as per its standard academic calendar.

Past trends show stable performance.

While the 2026 date will be released with the results, previous years provide a clear benchmark. In 2025, over 16.9 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 examinations, with an overall pass percentage of 88.39 percent. Girls continued to outperform boys, with a pass rate of over 91 percent, while boys’ pass rate was around 85.70 percent.In 2024, the overall pass ratio stood at 87.98 percent, while 2023 recorded 87.33 percent, reflecting a consistent performance trend in the 80s. A phenomenal increase was seen in 2021, when the pass percentage reached 99.37% due to the pandemic assessment policies.

CBSE Class 12th Result 2026: Steps to Download

Students can follow these steps to check and download their CBSE Class 12 results after they are declared:

  • Visit the official website – results.cbse.nic.in
  • Click on the link for “CBSE Class 12 Result 2026” on the home page.
  • Enter your Roll Number, School Number, Admit Card ID, and Date of Birth.
  • Submit details to login.
  • The result will appear on the screen.
  • Download the score card and take a printout for future use.

Students are advised to keep their admit card ready so that the login process can be smooth. The downloaded mark sheet can be used for quick reference until the original documents are released by the school.(with inputs from PTI)
