New Delhi: Shapoor ZadranOne of the pioneers of Afghanistan’s rise to international cricket, is currently fighting for his life in a hospital in New Delhi as his family appealed for urgent blood donations.The former left-arm fast bowler suffers from haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), a rare and life-threatening immune disorder.On Wednesday, the younger brother is, Spinningshared an emotional message on Instagram asking for help for the former Afghan star.“My brother, national hero Shapoor Zadran, is currently in critical condition,” Ghummai wrote. “With your prayers, we stand by our national hero. Due to scarcity and urgency, he is in dire need of blood.“If a friend lives in New Delhi, India, and their blood group is A positive (+A), please don’t hesitate to donate to your national hero.” The condition causes the body’s immune system to attack healthy organs and tissues, causing severe inflammation and damage to the bone marrow, liver, and spleen. According to the family, Shapur first fell ill last October, before doctors later diagnosed him with stage four HLH.After medical consultation in Kabul, the family brought Shapoor to India earlier this year for specialized treatment. He reached Delhi on January 18 and was immediately admitted to intensive care.“Our doctor in Afghanistan advised us to come to India. Everyone said the treatment here is very good,” Ghummai had earlier told TimesofIndia.com.Since then, the Afghanistan cricket community has rallied around the former fast bowler. Cricketers are also involved. Rashid KhanMuhammad Nabi and Asghar have been in close contact with the Afghan family.Despite the serious condition, Ghammai said his brother is showing the same fighting spirit he showed on the field.“He is fighting very hard, like he did in cricket. He never complains of pain or difficulty,” he had added.
