More than 40 days after “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” hit the screens on March 19, 2026, its amazing and explosive action continues to amaze the audience. Throwing light on one of the film’s most talked-about moments, SFX supervisor Vishal Tyagi recently revealed how the climactic shipping container explosion was shot using entirely practical effects, with zero CGI. 500 liters of gasoline and several kilograms of explosives were said to have been involved in the high-risk sequence, Ranveer Singh he remained calm and delivered his shot in the middle of the chaos.
‘Dhurandhar 2 ‘ climax had no CGI, just real explosions
Talking to Hindi Rush, Vishal Tyagi said, “Usually what happens is people say, ‘Give us a little bang, we’ll make it look awesome.’ But in Dhurandhar, Aditya Dhar he didn’t want to do CG—especially for the explosions. The instructions were clear, and we were given complete creative freedom. The climactic tanker explosion was the hardest thing to create. The biggest safety concern was in this particular scene. Imagine actually burning 500 gallons of gasoline. There was no CG at all. Every little detail in the scene is real. We were concerned that while the tankers were exploding, the flames would not reach Ranveer Singh, who was standing nearby. We did all the work and told Ranveer Singh where he could start walking.”Although both scenes appear Arjun Rampal and Ranveer Singh, Vishal revealed that Ranveer was exposed to more danger. He shared, “Arjun Rampal was on the shoot and then we removed him before the explosion shot, obviously. I was worried about Ranveer especially, but he wasn’t that worried. Mostly because he saw our work and knew how detailed I was about the explosions. After the shoot, the only thing he would say was, ‘Faad diya tune!’ We had packed Arjun Reddy, he could have returned to his van, but everyone stayed back to watch the explosion.“
The climax of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ came with a lot of production pressure
Talking about the pressure of shooting the sequence, Vishal said, “I had a lot of production pressure on me. The actual train base and containers were used for the explosion. It was very difficult, but we were confident. The production told me to use 250 liters, but I was adamant that at least 500 liters of fuel was needed for the effect. Maine suna sabki, ki apne mann ki.”
