Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle have been married for the past 25 years and have two sons. While Remo has worked as one of the best choreographers in the industry, he also turned director with films like ‘Faltu’, ‘ABCD’ etc. In a recent interview, Remo and Lizelle opened up about their love story while also opening up about their journey. The couple revealed that they lived there and had their first child out of wedlock. Remo said that his parents were not aware of his relationship with Lizelle, while revealing that his father strongly disapproved of him. At a time when relationships were still considered taboo, the couple decided to live together without informing their families. Lizelle, then only 20 years old, also got the chance to work as a hostess, but she quit after Remo expressed her discomfort with long-distance relationships. Speaking to Curly Tales, he said, “My mom knew I was in love with him,” he said, “So I left my house and we started living together.”To avoid confrontation, Lizelle even told her parents that they had secretly married, “which was not true.” Things took a dramatic turn when she became pregnant, a fact that was initially kept a secret. Remo recalled a moment when his mother accidentally discovered the truth. Seeing Lizelle, he asked, “Yeh pet se hai? (Is she pregnant?)” Remo was speechless, turned to his father and said, “Dekho tumhare bete ne kya kia hai (See what your son has done).“Reflecting on how they entered parenthood before marriage, Lizelle admitted, “It just happened with the flow and we both didn’t realize it. When you’re 20 you don’t realize it. I only have that excuse.’ By this time, even the mother realized that the earlier claim of secret marriage was true.After the birth of their son, the parents insisted on a proper church wedding so that the child could be baptized. “My son was born and my parents said you have to be baptized. They (churches) don’t do mandir ka shaadi (wedding in a temple). ‘You have to get married in a church to baptize your son, so you can decide whether you want to be baptized or not.’However, Lizelle took her time agreeing to the marriage. “It took me three months. He convinced me. Everyone convinced me after my son was born,” he said. He added, “I said, ‘Mereko na bharosa nahi hai (I have no faith).’ He said if we get married in the church and register our marriage, there’s nothing I can do.” Remo added, “She was scared; she has no faith in me. I said, ‘What more do you want?’“Even after becoming a mother, Lizelle admitted that she often went back to her parents’ house when things got tough. “Whenever anything happened, I would run away to my mother’s house and go to sleep. My mother would say, ‘What are you doing here? Your son is at home. You have to go back.'”When asked if their son was at the wedding, the couple smiled and confirmed that he was. In fact, they ended up getting married not once, but three times, a Christian ceremony, a Hindu wedding, and later, a vow renewal on their 20th anniversary. Remo humorously recalled the reason behind the second ceremony, saying that someone had told Lizelle that double-crowned men get married twice, prompting her decision. “She said I’ll only marry you twice,” she laughed.Today, Remo and Lizelle have been together for over 25 years and are parents to two sons, Dhruv and Gabriel, with a story that is as unusual as it is enduring.
