A viral Instagram video by singer-filmmaker Amit Jadhav has sparked a new controversy surrounding his upcoming film Saiyaara. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Jadhav says the story of the 2025 film resembles the plot of his 2019 YouTube short film Khwaabon.According to the singer-filmmaker, the two stories revolve around a couple whose lives change after the woman develops amnesia and disappears, while the male protagonist – a musician – tries to find her through a song.
“I received a message from there YRF Talent in 2022′
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Jadhav said that he had tried to raise the issue earlier and even recalled receiving a message. Yash Raj Films‘talent group.“I tried to speak last year too. I actually got a direct message on Instagram from YRF Talent in 2022. They wanted to contact me. I asked them which projects they were referring to, but they didn’t answer me. I didn’t know anyone there, and I didn’t even audition to contact me,” she said.
According to Jadhav, he realized the similarities only after the release of the film.“A week after the release of Saiyaara, my friends called me and said, ‘tera toh story same tha’. I was shocked. I tried to contact them, even went to their office, but my friends said they won’t entertain me or respond,” he added.
“Saiyaara is closer to my story”
Earlier, there were also online discussions claiming that Saiyaara was inspired by the 2004 Korean film A Moment to Remember. However, Jadhav feels that the Bollywood film is closer to his story.He explains that his short film revolves around a musician trying to reconnect with music and his partner, which he believes reinforces the resemblance.
‘One day I almost killed myself’
The filmmaker also opened up about the emotional impact the situation had on him. Jadhav said he was trying to expand Khwaabon into a full-length feature film.“I’m a singer, so I kept getting work and that’s why I calmed down a bit. But one day I almost killed myself. I threw up, my parents saw me and that’s how I was saved. I had the success that the world didn’t want me to have. They didn’t call me for auditions,” he said.Jadhav added that he was developing a feature script based on the story.“I had started working on a script for myself. I even got the producers. We were planning to shoot in 2025. But then Saiyaara happened and everything got derailed,” he said.
“I just want a confession”
Asked if he had registered the story, Jadhav said that though he is a member of the Screenwriters Guild, the script was not formally registered then.“I’m part of the Screenwriters Association, but no, I didn’t register the story in 2019 because it was a short film and it was already out on a public platform as evidence,” he explained.Jadhav also said that he tried to contact the production house after the release of the film.“I wrote in the message that I received a message from them even in 2022 and Saiyaara’s story is similar to mine. I asked them to clarify. I emailed twice but got no response,” he said. For now, Jadhav says he is not asking for anything big, but hopes for recognition.“I should get some credit. Or at least I can have a role in some project. That’s all I’m looking for,” he said.the director Mohit Suri and Yash Raj Films are yet to respond to these allegations.
