Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Love & War starrer Vicky Kaushal is creating constant buzz, and a new behind-the-scenes revelation has added to the intrigue. Lead actor Ashwin Kaushal, who plays Ranbir Kapoor’s father in the film, has shared how the role came to him.

“He was initially considered for another role”

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ashwin Kaushal revealed that his casting was not part of the original plan. The actor shared that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali first he called her for another part.“Last February, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to meet me. They were setting up their sets at Film City. I went there and met him for the first time. He told me that there were one or two sequences in the film, which was for another role. The next day, I got a call from his office saying that he had something else on his mind after observing me. That’s when I was told that I would be playing Ranbir Kapoor’s father,” he said.

‘It’s very grounded’

Ashwin also spoke about the experience of working with Ranbir Kapoor, highlighting the actor’s humility despite his stardom.Calling it a full circle moment, he mentioned his admiration Rishi Kapoor. “Rishi Kapoor was my ideal, almost like a father figure to me. And now I have to play the role of Ranbir’s father – fate works in strange ways,” he said.He added, “Ranbir is very well mannered. There is no attitude. He met me so warmly and he also knew that I had worked with his father Damini. He was very cooperative.”

The big release is locked in for 2027

Meanwhile, Love & War will be one of Bhansali’s biggest films to date. The filmmaker recently locked in January 21, 2027 as the release date, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend.The film is also said to be mounted on a massive scale. Reports suggest that the large-scale aerial action sequences and extensive VFX work is one of the main reasons behind its long production timeline, and is one of Bhansali’s biggest ambitions.
