Delhi Capitals fast bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head injury while trying to catch Punjab Kings batsman Priyansh Arya during their IPL 2026 match in Delhi on Saturday.According to news agency PTI, the South African has been taken to Max Hospital on Delhi’s Pusa Road for further medical examination. The incident took place in the third over of Punjab Kings’ chase when Arya played a full-ball slash on Axar Patel’s stumps. The ball went high towards mid-off, where Ngidi raced back to complete the catch. However, he misjudged the opportunity and failed to touch the ball. Falling backwards, Ngidi landed badly and hit the back of his head hard on the ground at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. His head bounced off the surface as he fell, and he immediately clutched his head in pain. He rolled to the side and remained on the ground for some time, causing immediate concern among the players and support staff. The physio and team doctor arrived at the field and visited the South African fast bowler. He lay on the ground for more than a minute while paramedics checked on him. The stretcher was then brought to the field. The physio was seen talking to Ngidi while holding his neck, and was somewhat relieved by the fact that he was able to respond. An ambulance was brought to the ground as doctors and physios swarmed him. A neck brace was carefully placed under his head and around his neck before he was prepared to be taken off the field. Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting also took to the field as the medical team worked around Ngidi. There were worried faces in the Delhi Capitals camp after the stretcher came out. A tough outfield at the Arun Jaitley Stadium added to concerns about the impact of the fall. The crowd inside the stadium also fell silent realizing the seriousness of the injury. It looks like Ngidi will be back in the match after a heavy fall.
