'The Mummy 4' gets an early release date: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially returning

‘The Mummy 4’ just got a whole lot closer. The next entry in the beloved franchise has risen significantly, allowing fans to reunite with the characters they fell in love with in 1999. And in perhaps the biggest news yet, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have officially been confirmed to be back.According to Deadline, ‘The Mummy 4’ will be released on October 15, 2027, almost a year earlier than the planned date of May 19, 2028. That original date will likely be used for another release.

Fraser will reprise his role as Rick O’Connell, and Weisz will return as Evelyn Carnahan. The pair were previously said to be in talks, but now their return is confirmed. No official word has been given on whether other cast members will also return.The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin Tyler GillettAlso known as Radio Silence, the duo co-wrote with David Coggeshall.

The history of ‘The Mummy’ franchise

Originally released in 1999, ‘The Mummy’ became a beloved adventure classic and launched a franchise that lasted nearly a decade. It was followed by ‘The Mummy Returns’ in 2001, and Fraser, Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo returned for the sequel. The third installment, ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, arrived in 2008, with Fraser and Hannah returning but notably without Weisz. Maria Bello took the role of Evelyn in that movie.

Another mummy movie is also on the way

It’s worth noting that ‘The Mummy 4’ won’t be the only mummy-related film to hit theaters in the coming years. Director Lee Cronin is also working on a separate mummy film, which is due out next spring. Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón and May Calamawy star in that film.With two mummy movies in the works, audiences will have more than one chance to revisit the genre.
