István Szabó is gearing up with his Oscar-winning cast for his next big project, the highly anticipated period drama ‘Embers’. Famous English actor Ralph Fiennes has been added as a leader.

According to Deadline, along with Ralph Fiennes Vigo MortensenCharlotte Rampling, Katherine Langford, Louis Hofmann, Gijs Blom, Evelyne Brochu and Jonah Russell will also be part of the drama piece from the mind of István Szabó. It is Szabó’s second film since 2012, and the first film he has been working on in the last 6 years.According to the aforementioned report, Christopher HamptonBest known for ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, Sándor Márai will adapt the drama film from a novel written by the best-selling author. Filming for the movie has already started, with all the actors currently filming in Budapest, Hungary.Not only that, but the first official look of Fiennes, Mortensen and Langford’s characters in the drama film has also been released online. Composer Mychael Danna, production designer Attila F. Kovacs, cinematographer Dániel Garas, costume designer Bea Merkovits and editor David Wharnsby have also joined the project.
István Szabó talks about his first film after 6 years
Szabó expressed his excitement about working on the project and all the actors involved in the film. He mentioned: “Since Christopher Hampton sent it to me, Robert Lantos and I have been waiting to film the best script I’ve ever had. The basis, Márai’s novel, is one of the finest works of fiction of the 20th century. Christopher adapted the novel to film perfectly.”

The official synopsis of the upcoming film has been released online. It reads: “Embers reunites his once inseparable friends, Henrik (Fiennes) and Konrad (Mortensen), decades after Konrad’s mysterious disappearance, and over the course of an evening discovers the secret that tore them apart and the woman in its midst.”
