Vijayawada: Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik inaugurated the three-day national level sports festival “UDGAM 2026” at SRM University-AP on Thursday. Wrestling champion Satyavarat Kadian attended the event as the chief guest.According to university officials, the fest has brought together athletes from various universities across the country to participate in various sports events. Prof. Vice-Chancellor Chaudhry Satish Kumar in his address outlined the institution’s focus on holistic development of students and said that a sports complex was being planned to provide training in selected disciplines including wrestling.Director of Sports Dr V Kaul said that the event provides a platform for students to participate in competitive sports and showcase their skills.During the inaugural session, Sakshi Malik spoke about her journey in wrestling and interacted with the students and participants. He also addressed the players on the importance of discipline and continuous efforts in sports.On the occasion, the university presented cash prizes to three student-athletes who bagged gold medals in the 85th All India Inter-University Athletics Championship 2025-26. Mabasina Muhammad (long jump) received Rs 10 lakh, while Aditya (javelin throw) and Anamika (heptathlon) were awarded Rs 5 lakh each.The event includes football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis, chess and e-sports competitions. University officers, faculty members and students participated.
