New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans are still waiting to watch. MS Dhoni i play IPL 2026, although he is training regularly with the team. However, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey, speaking on the eve of the match. Mumbai Indians And Chennai Super Kings cleared the air, confirming that Dhoni is expected to return as a wicketkeeper, not just a specialist batsman.
Talking about his fitness, Hussey said, “I’m pretty sure he’ll be behind the stumps. The biggest thing for him is the calf injury. It’s just running and late in the innings if he comes in, he’s got to hit those one and two. He just has to make sure the calf is strong enough to deal with it.”
Focus on total fitness.
Hussey clarified that Dhoni’s role will not be limited, but his return is entirely dependent on his recovery. “But certainly from a skill point of view, we know what he can do as a keeper. We know he’s batting really well, so hopefully that confidence is building in the colt,” he added. According to the team, the focus is to ensure that Dhoni is fully fit before returning to the field.
A return is likely soon.
Providing a positive update, Hussey said Dhoni is progressing well and is eager to return. “He is progressing really well. I know he is working hard to come back as soon as possible. I know all the fans want to see him play MS Dhoni as well. So we are hopeful, maybe in the next few games, but we want him back as soon as possible, as soon as possible,” he added.“But obviously, he needs to be close to 100 per cent to be at his best because he’s batting well in the nets, he looks good in the nets. He just needs to run hard between the wickets as well.”For now, CSK are managing well and sitting on the table, but fans are waiting for Dhoni’s comeback. After the win against Mumbai Indians, CSK will next face Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
