The Michael Jackson biopic titled ‘Michael’ is all set to hit the big screens on Friday. Chronicling the career of legendary music artist Michael Jackson, the biopic made headlines from the start, unfortunately not always for the right reasons. For example, the movie recently found itself in hot water over claims of whitewashing child abuse allegations. Based on the reactions of many fans and critics’ opinions on the film, the biopic has been “whitewashed” to remove any mention of the allegations. In response to said claims, the co-protagonists Colman Domingo and Nia Long shared that the biopic only deals with the things that led to the creation of Michael Jackson, and not his last years.
Colman Domingo has broken his silence on child abuse claims “whitewashed”.
“The movie takes place from the 60s to 1988. It’s not included in the first allegations in 2005,” Domingo said on Wednesday’s episode of the “Today” show. “So we basically focus on Michael’s creation. It’s an intimate portrait of who Michael is… through his eyes,” he continued.Not only that, but he also dropped a hint about a possible sequel that “could deal with some of the things that happened later.”“That’s what this movie is, and then there’s the possibility of a part 2 that could deal with some of the other things that happened. This is about Michael’s creation, how he grew up, and then how he was trying to find his voice as an artist and as a solo artist,” said Colman Domingo, who plays Michael’s father, Joseph Jackson, in the film.However, it is worth noting that so far there are no confirmed details about the sequel, whether it will happen or not, and if it does, what it will document. It is believed that the film was originally set to combat the allegations, but was later reshot and re-edited to omit the scandalous details.

Amidst all this, Antoine Fuqua also spoke about the claims. Speaking to the New Yorker, the filmmaker said he is “not convinced that Jackson did what he is accused of.”“When I hear things about us — Black people in particular, especially in a certain position — there’s always a pause,” he added.Starring Jackson’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, as “Michael,” the biopic is slated for release on April 24, 2026.
